A little About Me
Since I was small, I can always remember drawing, making paper castles or driving my mother mad making mud pies in the garden, so it seemed natural for me to find a career in art.
I first started working with clay during my foundation course at the South Devon College in Torquay, and loved it so much I went on to study it further at a 2 year HND ceramics course in Falmouth, Cornwall. After watching a tutor 'throw' a pot on the potter's wheel, I knew this was what I wanted to do and spent almost all of my time at college at the potter's wheel. During this time, a potter friend of my grandfathers gave me some of his unused 'underglaze' powders. This steered me in the direction of using under glazes to decorate my work, and if I wasn't at the wheel, I was busy experimenting with oxides and making my own colours. I was fortunate enough to have an old kiln given to me, and I bought a small kick wheel (which I still use to this day) which was put in my parent's garage for me to use during the weekends and during college holidays.
At my end of year exhibition I exhibited almost 150 pieces of my work of which almost half was sold, giving me a good financial boost to buy materials. I started making pottery in my parent's garage in Torquay in between working as a waitress in a local hotel, and began to show my work at the local craft market in Totnes, and supplying a couple of local shops. It wasn't long before I had to make the difficult decision to commit to my pottery full time, and I have never looked back since.
Now I live in Bridgwater, Somerset with my partner, Tim, and my two young children. I work from home in my garage which has been made into a workshop and storeroom, and supply shops and galleries in the South West with my work. I also regularly attend craft fairs, steam rallies, exhibitions and craft markets from Devon to Glocestershire.
As I work from home, arrangements to visit me can be made by telephoning me first on 07977 579320.
